Timing Belt or Chain Noise: The One Maintenance Item You Can't Skip

Most maintenance items can slide a bit. This one genuinely can't.

The symptom

A new ticking or rattling sound from the engine — or no symptom at all, which is the real danger.

What's causing it

The timing belt or chain keeps the crankshaft and camshaft synchronized. If it fails, many engines suffer piston-valve collision — catastrophic, rebuild-level damage.

What to do

Stick to the manufacturer's replacement interval (usually 60,000-100,000 km) even if you've heard no noise at all. Proactive replacement typically runs ₹6-18k; a failure can mean ₹30k-1L+ in repairs.

Track your service interval in the GetAutoSure app.
